Extraction is a decision cycle, not one final button: set a return threshold before the raid, keep a usable route back, secure valuable cargo, stop taking optional fights, and leave while the Trampler can still move. Confirm the current in-game prompt because Early Access mechanics can change.
What “extract” means in SAND
A run only creates progression when useful resources return with you instead of being lost to damage, delay, or another crew. Finding loot is not the finish line.
Treat extraction as the final raid phase: enter with a purpose, collect enough value, disengage, and complete the current mode’s return condition with the crew coordinated and the Trampler operational.
How to extract step by step
Choose a return threshold
Before departure, decide what ends the raid: a target artifact, enough repair material, low ammunition, critical damage, or storm pressure that no longer justifies another stop.
Keep the Trampler ready to leave
Avoid terrain, wreckage, or enemy fire that can trap it. Preserve mobility, repair capacity, and a clear boarding route for every crew member.
Secure priority loot
Move valuable items into the safest available storage and confirm they are in the inventory or vehicle state that returns with you.
Break contact early
Extraction starts before the exit. Stop opening new locations and avoid optional duels once the run has met its purpose.
Follow the current mode cue
Use the map, objective text, and interaction prompt shown by your current build. Reach the valid return condition together.
Confirm the result
Wait for the result or inventory transition. If rewards are missing, note the mode, crew state, and any disconnect so a gameplay mistake can be separated from a bug.

Voyage Mode vs. Storm Dive extraction
Voyage Mode
Practice route reading, boarding discipline, storage checks, and a repeatable return routine.
Storm Dive
Environmental pressure, stronger rewards, and rival crews make delay more expensive. Pick a fallback route earlier and shorten the final looting window.
Decision table
| Situation | Action | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Raid goal complete; Trampler healthy | Extract now | The run already has positive value, so another stop only adds downside. |
| Priority loot secured; ammunition low | Start the return route | You can survive one forced contact but should not seek another fight. |
| Mobility module damaged or route narrowing | Disengage immediately | Losing movement can turn every later choice into a forced defense. |
| Crew split or one player not ready | Regroup before entering the final zone | A short regroup is safer than triggering departure with unclear boarding or loot state. |
Pre-extraction checklist
- The raid goal is complete or no longer worth the risk.
- Priority loot is secured in the correct storage.
- Every crew member knows the return route and boarding order.
- The Trampler can move and its path is not blocked.
- Ammunition, repairs, and time remain for one forced contact.
- No optional location is worth more than the haul already secured.
Why extraction attempts fail
Waiting for completely full storage
Full storage removes flexibility. Begin the return before damage or a storm turns inventory management into a crisis.
Treating every enemy as required
One unnecessary duel can erase a winning raid. Fight only when the route is blocked or the advantage is clear.
Separating the crew late
Regroup before the final phase and assign one person to call departure.
Assuming old videos match
UI labels, map cues, and rules can change during Early Access. Follow the objective visible in your build.
This guide does not invent a fixed extraction key, timer, or marker. If the live UI differs, the current objective and official update notes take priority.
Extraction FAQ
Can I extract without filling the Trampler?
Yes. A smaller successful haul is better than losing a full load. Leave when the goal is met or the next stop is a poor trade.
Should the crew regroup?
Yes whenever possible. Regrouping reduces missed boarding, split loot, and conflicting decisions.
Is extraction different in Voyage Mode and Storm Dive?
Pressure and exact rules can differ, but mobility, secure cargo, current objective text, and timely departure remain essential.
What if the prompt does not work?
Check position, crew state, and vehicle condition. Leave and re-enter the valid area, then record the issue if a disconnect or bug is likely.
When is the best time to extract?
Just after the raid achieves its purpose and before the next optional fight.
